The Wages of Sin

Leaves falling from the trees to the
ground cause me to sigh.
Because this is a sign winters's
cold winds are drawing nigh.
The tree limbs, stripped of their
leaves, will be all bare,
Makes me long for Heaven;
there will be no death there.

My thoughts are carried back
to a time long ago...
That beautiful Garden of
Eden, as we all know,
Was a lush green haven
where our first parents
did live.
This home, to Adam and Eve,
God was delighted to give.

They trained the vines and,
in close contact came
To all of nature.
The animals they named.
Imagine all the beauty
and joy that was theirs
Living in that place
without any cares.

Only one thing was all
that was required of them,
They were to obey God and
truly worship Him.
They could eat of the
fruits and nuts of the
trees.
In giving these gifts
to man, God intended to
please.

There was only one tree
they were asked to leave
alone.
The reasons for this were
to God only known.
The serpent, the devil, was
waiting in that tree,
Waiting to tell Eve to
eat and set herself free.

The knowledge of evil wasn't
meant for man.
It would have been best if
Eve, from that serpent, ran.
But the dazzling serpent used
flattery in speaking to Eve.
The devil was cunning and
truth with error did weave.

Eve listened to that serpent
and sin entered in.
She gave the fruit to
Adam and he also did sin.
Because of disobedience,
now everything must die.
It will be thus so until
Jesus comes in the sky.

Imagine the pain felt as
that first leaf fell to the
ground.
It was the first sign that
wickedness on earth would
abound.
What a weight must have been
upon Adam and Eve's heart;
Their sin was what caused
this curse of death to start.

God in love, put color in
the dying leaves of the tree,
So it wouldn't be so painful
for you and me.
The leaves show their beauty
in the fall of the year,
So even in death we can feel
God's presence near.

Someday, the garden to Adam
and Eve, God will restore.
Then the dreaded curse of
death shall be no more.
The beauty of that garden
they will be able to share
with all of God's children
who shall enter there!
